CHARACTER INFO
• Character Name: Senku Ishigami
• Character Age: 18
• Character Canon: Dr. Stone
• Canon Point: End of Season 3
• Character History: Here
• Character Personality:
Positive
— Brilliant: Senku is undeniably a genius and scientific prodigy, able to memorize massive amounts of information about chemical compounds and reactions as well as rapidly perform highly complex calculations mentally and under extreme pressure such as imminent death. He made a number of functional inventions including a bioelectric suit that could manipulate someone's movements and an actual rocket ship well before he was even in high school. Not only does he figure out a means to reverse the petrification of individuals by himself within a year of experimentation, but he also realizes the potential implications of the chemical process involved and makes use of it in a gambit to save his own life within the first few episodes of the series. He's also incredibly resourceful, using scientific principles to reinvent such essentials to civilization as soap, iron, electricity, antibiotics, and radio communications, even a rudimentary cell phone to name a few, within just another year after he cracks the secret of the revival fluid, and reestablishes sustainable agriculture the year after that alongside redeveloping sonar and navigation systems for a long-distance ship journey to the other side of the world. Senku's quick thinking and encyclopedic knowledge of many fields of science has saved the lives of his friends and Ishigami Village on many occasions.
— Reliable: As noted by several other characters over the course of the series, Senku is a person you can put your faith in. When he sets his mind to a task or a goal, he will work at it persistently and methodically, solving any issues that arise until he achieves the results he wants. This is seen repeatedly throughout the show, with each of the major science projects that the Kingdom of Science embarks upon to further their goal of restoring civilization to its former state and rescuing all humanity from the petrification. Beyond that, Senku is also someone who can be trusted to be true to his word, and he refuses to lie when it comes to science. During an important negotiation to convince one of Tsukasa's followers to defect, she asks if he can restore her favorite musician's music with science, and despite Gen urging him to lie to convince her, he instead convinces her by being up front about what he can and can't accomplish. Later on, Tsukasa reflects on Senku holding up his end of a promise to revive his sister in exchange for a truce when he himself had previously broken his own word to Senku. He is even willing to hold up promises made on his behalf if he is indeed capable of doing so, such as when a fellow Kingdom of Science member promises a former reporter that Senku will build her a camera in exchange for her help with a vital task.
— Dauntless: Senku is someone with an indomitable will, who faces every challenge head-on and without flinching. When he was petrified, lost in a darkness in which none of his senses were available to him, he retained consciousness by counting the seconds without ever stopping for 3700 years, so that if a means of breaking free ever came about, he would know what season it was and try to aim for spring. Later, Tsukasa offers him an ultimatum in which he demands Senku to turn his back on science permanently or face death, and without hesitation he proclaims that he could never turn his back on science, despite knowing that he would have no chance at physically overpowering Tsukasa in a direct confrontation. Much as he is unwilling to make promises he won't or can't keep, he is similarly unwilling to agree with anything he doesn't believe in simply for the sake of self-preservation. Even so, he is not afraid to make alliances with dangerous people when their interests align, such as when he has Gen convince Moz, an enemy warrior, to work with them to take down a common foe, in full awareness that they would be immediately betrayed the moment they were no longer convenient.
Negative
— Blunt: Although Senku can occasionally manipulate a situation by withholding information or figuring out in advance a way to draw someone to his side, he is not someone who minces words or engages in social niceties for the sake of them. He doesn't hesitate to say so if he thinks something is illogical or foolish. There are also a few occasions in which Senku ends up unintentionally thwarting or nearly thwarting Gen's intentions for a particular negotiation as well, such as their first meeting with Amaryllis when he simply outright asks if she's seen the treasure box they're looking for, or when he intends to ask Ryusui directly to fly the hot air balloon when they're trying to survey the area in search of the Sagara Oil Fields. Kohaku also comments on occasion on how Senku doesn't particularly seem to care about how his words and actions are perceived, as evidenced by how he continues to refer to her as a gorilla or lionness despite her consistent annoyance with it.
— Reckless: Although Senku does have a healthy respect for his own neck, he tends not to approach his goals cautiously, and on several occasions leaves things to an all-or-nothing gamble when his back is pushed to the wall. For instance, early on, to save Yuzuriha's life, he stakes his own on the mere chance that his friends will notice the lingering petrification on his broken neck and use the revival fluid to heal it. Later on, he makes a gas mask out of leather and activated carbon, and risks his life on the chance it will filter out toxins long enough to be able to collect a sample of sulfuric acid from a hot spring necessary to complete the antibiotic for Ruri. His entire strategy in not being wiped out by Tsukasa's massive army hinges on the second cell phone they create not being found by Tsukasa's people before Taiju and Yuzuriha retrieve it, and at one point in the heat of battle risks everything to make nitroglycerin in the hopes of forcing a truce despite acknowledging that one false move with it would result in them blowing themselves up. Indeed, he handles a number of incredibly dangerous chemicals without having access to modern safety equipment, including ones which he points out have been used for purposes as extreme as melting corpses wholesale. It is not so much that Senku doesn't think about these consequences as that he simply is unafraid of taking risks he sees as necessary, even when perhaps it would be safer not to.
— Distant: Senku is a person who is deeply uncomfortable with vulnerability and his own emotions. He dislikes physical affection enough that he physically ducks Taiju's attempts to hug him when they finally reunite after a year apart, and he literally needs to be tricked by Gen into revealing his birthday to be celebrated by the others. He generally tries to avoid expressing anything sentimental, even when it's sometimes obvious from his actions, and the times when he can't avoid tearing up, he covers or lowers his face to hide it from others. Tsukasa notes once that his greatest vulnerability is that he won't leave anyone behind, yet despite this, Senku generally never expresses his attachment to others beyond their practical value to the Kingdom of Science. This extends to everyone in his life, even his adoptive father Byakuya. One of the more tragic elements of his storyline includes the fact that when Byakuya, an astronaut, went up into the ISS, he skipped an opportunity to speak with Senku, knowing his son would prefer not to disrupt his research for such things-–this would turn out to be the last opportunity he would ever have to speak to him before the petrification disaster, and he would die of old age thousands of years before Senku's awakening. Even when he leaves his son a final recording to discover in the future, he outright makes a joke about how Senku would probably rather he avoid any mushy sentimental talk, to which Senku remarks that Byakuya really knows him.
